Hello! I am Ms Joanna and I teach English and Drama to K2 and K3. I have come over to Hong Kong

for a year from England and I used to live near London. I have graduated from University and have a

degree in Philosophy and Sociology. I really enjoy working here at Siu Lun Court and feel really

blessed to be here. All the teachers and staff have been really welcoming and are really friendly. The

children are all so sweet and I am really enjoying teaching them. They are all eager to learn and pick

up the English language quite well. I have been impressed. I love how the school is so colourful and

how all the individual children's needs are met.

You never knew how far the children can go or where their interests lie until you watch them perform

on stage. I felt happy for them when I saw the children standing on stage performing the drama¡¥Little

Red Riding Hood¡¦and Where is the Dentist?¡¦with confidence. This is the way we help children

learn and I suppose much of what is learned and taught beyond the parameter of the curriculum.I think

this is what education is all about! It is not only learning from books but also learning through play.

When children play together, they learn how to interact with others, how to settle a disagreement

amicably and sharing. Children will learn an important skill ¡V socialization and this skill is going to

benefit them the rest of their life.

I am so delighted to be a member of the English teaching team in SKH St. Peter's Church Castle Peak

Siu Lun Kindergarten. Our school gave me a golden opportunity to participate the 'Quality English

Language Education at Pre-Primary Level' Project. It allowed me to be exposed to a variety of different

teaching strategies. As a teacher, I am amazed at the curiosity and enthusiasm of the students. Each

day is a challenging new experience for me. I really enjoy watching your children learn and grow and

change from day to day. I hope that all the things I do will help in some small way. So it will make

more cherished memories in your children's early childhood.

Coming from South Africa as I do, working at St Peter's has been a very enlightening experience for

me. Our kindergartens back home are very different. The children in South Africa do not wear school

uniform and they partake in a lot more outdoor activities than the children in Hong Kong. I find the

children from St Peter's are more advanced when it comes to reading and arithmetic and have an

altogether more structured and disciplined education. We enjoy teaching because of this and It's very

rewarding to see the children progress at such a fast pace.

I arrived in Hong Kong with my family from Doha, Qatar in July 2005, where I taught at the

International School of Chouifat for 6 years. I was teaching 3 to 4 year olds which was very rewarding

to see them grow and improve immensely with their English Phonics and maths.

I have been teaching at SKH St. Peter¡¦s Church Castle Peak Siu Lun Court Kindergarten since 27

August 2007 and I am really enjoying the experience of teaching drawing and art with my K2 classes.

Through art and drawing, children are able to express individuality and creativity and show a personal

understanding of self. Art activities also promote large motor and fine motor (eye-hand coordination)

development.Other learning that takes place through art activities is developing concentration and

attention span, and stimulating visual representation.

Satisfaction comes with this learning and with the creation of something that is uniquely one¡¦s own
